Museum Manager, Kelvingrove Art Gallery & Museum

Neil has been in this role from 10th June 2008 to the present day.

He is responsible for the strategic direction and efficient management of Kelvingrove, one of the most popular visitor attractions in Scotland. This 5-star facility is Glasgow’s largest museum, receives 1.3 million visitors annually and exhibits the finest municipal collection in Britain, including internationally acclaimed works by Dali, Rembrandt, Picasso, Monet, Titian, Charles Rennie Macintosh etc., valued at £800 million. He managed 63 staff including two Assistant Museum Managers, the visitor services team, the education team and technicians. He liaises with catering, retail, research and cleansing managers, the press office, community groups, volunteers, various external funding agencies and represents Kelvingrove at events and international conferences.

His duties include strategic over-sight of Kelvingrove’s forward program of gallery changes and temporary exhibitions, customer care issues as well as the security and maintenance of the A-listed building and all its contents. Other duties include the achievement of designated targets, the implementation of corporate policies, as well as responsibility for the health and safety of all staff and visitors.

For the last 18 months, Neil has also been the manager of St. Mungo’s Museum of Religion and Provand’s Lordship.

From 2003–2008 he was employed as the manager at Summerlee: The Museum of Scottish Industrial Life and also worked as Curator of Social History for 7 years in North Lanarkshire.
